INTRODUCTION
- A pregnancy test is used to determine whether a woman is pregnant.
- Pregnancy test are based on the detection of the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG).
HCG
- Human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone secreted by placenta during pregnancy.
- It's production stimulates secretion of progesterone by the ovary.
- The HCG levels will double every 2-3 days in early pregnancy.
- It appears in urine , blood, amniotic fluid. The serum and urine rise rapidly during gestation.
PRINCIPLE
REQUIREMENT.
PROCEDURE
- Allow the urine to reach room temperature before testing.
- Remove the test strip from the pouch.
- Immerse the strip into the urine. Be sure that the urine level is below the stop line on the test strip.
- Take the strip out after 5 second and lay the strip flat on a clean, dry, non absorbent surface.
- Wait for 3-10 minute.
INTERPOLATION
Negative Result: NOT PREGNANT
Only one color band appears on the top Control (C) region. There should be no apparent band on the Test (T) region. The control line is designed to validate the test and should be crisp and clear in intensity against the white background.
Positive Result: POSSIBLE PREGNANCY
Distinct and consistent color bands appear on the Control (C) and Test (T) regions. Color intensity of the bands may vary according to concentration and level of HCG development. The test line is usually slightly weaker in intensity in comparison to the control line. The pattern of increasing intensity of the test line is a much better predictor of pregnancy rather than any individual reading.
Invalid Results
If there is no visible control line, discard the test. Repeat test with a new device.
PRECAUTION AND WARNING
- Do not use the test strip after the expiration date.
- If the package is not completely sealed do not use the test strip.
- The test should be performed in well lit area.
- Use the test device immediately after opening it.
- Do not take reading after the 30 minutes.
- Do not touch the test , control window.
